Chair of Yorkshire Science

Richard is an experienced non-executive director in both the private and public sectors. He is the Yorkshire Bank Chair on the board of National Australia Group Europe Ltd, and is a director of its other UK bank, Clydesdale Bank PLC. He is a member of the NAGE Risk and Audit Committees and chair of Yorkshire Bank Pension Trust. Other current board positions include Sheffield University Enterprises Ltd and Imagesound PLC.

He was an original board member of Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency, and served as deputy chairman from its inception in 1999 to December 2004. He led for the board in the relationship with Yorkshire Universities, the White Rose Consortium, and the innovation agenda.

He served on the board of Sheffield Hallam University for 11 years, six as deputy chair, and four as chair from 1999-2003.

His executive background was in television, serving Yorkshire Television as an executive in programming, production and broadcasting for 20 years, and culminating as managing director from 1997-2002. He specialised in the management of change introducing new working practices and new technology and was one of the team who helped make YTV one of the most efficient and high quality ITV broadcasters.

A former chair of the Yorkshire International Business Convention, and former board member of Yorkshire Culture and Yorkshire Arts.

He is a non-executive director of Business in the Community, the UK's leading corporate social responsibility organisation. He was appointed Ambassador for Yorkshire by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2005 as part of BITCs National Awards for Excellence, and awarded an OBE in 2004 for his services to Yorkshire.
