The Framework Programme (FP) is the European Union’s main method for funding research and development. FP7, the latest funding programme, will run over a seven year period, starting on the 1st of January 2007, with a budget in excess of €50 billion.

Participation in FP7 projects provides a significant opportunity for our region’s companies to develop new products and services, develop new European suppliers or supply chain relationships, share best practice and build effective relationships with universities and other research organisations. However, taking part in FP programmes can be a complex process, involving several partners and requiring significant commitment from all parties during both preparation of a proposal as well during the project itself.

The main objective of the Yorkshire Forward European Research and Development Support programme is to maximise regional participation in FP7 by providing a comprehensive package of targeted awareness raising and proposal preparation support.

The main aims of the programme are:

  • To raise awareness of FP7 though a marketing campaign (including events, a website, briefings, e-bulletins and leaflets) aimed at businesses, academia, research organisations and intermediaries.
  • To set up a ‘Champions’ Network’ of people who have successfully taken part in previous Framework Programmes who can provide advice and guidance to others.
  • To encourage organisations to take part in FP7 by providing support services designed to give our region's organisations the maximum chance of success in EU funded research and development projects.
  • To maximise the possibility of projects being successful by focusing project proposals on areas where we have proven ability in our region in terms of research strengths and appropriate companies.
  • To encourage key players to take part in joint activities and European networks to forge new relationships and raise awareness of opportunities.
